Lead Procurement Specialist

will play a vital role in sourcing, negotiating, and procuring the materials, components, and services essential for our mass manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess robust experience in procurement, supplier relationship management, and cost optimization within a manufacturing context. This position demands close collaboration with production, engineering, quality assurance, and finance teams to guarantee the availability of materials, cost-effectiveness, and timely deliveries. Key Responsibilities: Strategically identify and procure materials including sheet metal, battery packs, solar modules, wiring harnesses, and other related components. Analyze production schedules and forecasts to ascertain material requirements using MRP tools or manual planning techniques. Issue and manage purchase orders effectively, monitor deliveries, and expedite critical materials when necessary. Oversee inventory levels and place orders to ensure optimal stock levels without excess purchasing. Foster and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery performance. Assist in procuring goods and services vital for the company’s success. Evaluate potential suppliers and negotiate pricing and terms to align with production and cost objectives. Address quality, delivery, or shortage issues promptly with vendors. Work alongside production supervisors and team leads to understand material usage, lead times, and schedule modifications. Support engineering changes and new product introductions by ensuring timely sourcing of new components. Collaborate with the warehouse team to guarantee accurate receiving procedures, inventory counts, and seamless material flow to the production floor. Maintain data integrity in ERP systems or inventory management software. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) like on-time delivery, purchase price variance, and inventory turnover. Generate and present regular reports to facilitate informed purchasing and planning decisions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). A minimum of 5 years of experience in a buyer/planner role, preferably within a small to mid-sized manufacturing environment. Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite or similar). Comprehensive understanding of MRP, supply planning, and procurement best practices. Knowledgeable in procurement regulations and procedures. Exceptional organizational, analytical, and negotiation skills. Adept at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Experience with lean manufacturing or kanban systems is advantageous. APICS/ASCM or ISM certifications (e.g., CPIM, CSCP, CPSM) are a plus. Comfortable working closely with shop floor teams in a compact plant atmosphere.
