Commercial Real Estate Controller
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Controller to lead financial operations, oversee property-level accounting, and improve reporting accuracy and process efficiency. This position is ideal for a results-driven accounting professional with deep real estate expertise who's ready to take full ownership of the firm's accounting function and advance into a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role, this is a great opportunity for long-term advancement at a successful firm in Boston.
Why This Job Is Awesome: Compensation: Competitive base salary up to $180,000, plus 20% bonus Benefits: Comprehensive package including healthcare, dental, vision, and 401(k) Hybrid Flexibility: Work 3 days in-office and 2 days remotely each week Career Growth: Clear pathway to promotion into the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role as the organization scales Culture: Supportive, collaborative, and flexible team environment that values professional growth and work-life balance Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage both internal and third-party property accounting teams, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and process improvement across all accounting functions Oversee monthly property-level financials including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, variance analysis, capital and TI project tracking, and cash flow projections Prepare and review annual budgets, semi-annual forecasts, and detailed year-end work papers to support tax filings and audits Manage property-level treasury operations, cash management, and job cost accounting for development projects Support acquisitions and dispositions by coordinating financial due diligence and providing key accounting documentation Oversee annual CAM and real estate tax budgets, reconciliations, and assist in implementing new accounting systems and process enhancements Qualifications: 8+ years of progressive experience in real estate accounting or finance Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics Strong proficiency in Excel and real estate accounting systems such as Yardi, MRI, and AvidXchange Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with investors, external partners, and internal teams Preferred: Public accounting background Expert knowledge of commercial real estate accounting practices CPA license and/or advanced degree in Accounting or Business
