Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Certified Surgical Tech Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room Duration: 6 Shift: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: 5 Years Required License: BLS (AHA) and NBSTSA Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), NBSTSA Must-Have: Open Heart Experience Required Tertiary care center and/or designated level I or II trauma center experience Required Travel experience Highly Preferred Description: This individual fills the role of surgical technologist in the Operating Room. The surgical technologist understands and demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures. They assure all supplies and equipment are available for the procedure and in working condition. They confirm and/or assemble sterile instruments for use correctly. They anticipate the needs of the surgeon. They assist in keeping accurate accounts of medications, sharps, instruments, and sponges. They are responsible for maintaining and monitoring the sterile field. Responsibilities include demonstrating knowledge of surgical procedures and problem-solving related to the procedure being performed. They verify items on the physician preference card. They are accountable for supplies to ensure accurate patient charges are billed. They demonstrate proper use, assembly, and cleaning of equipment and disposables. They ensure all equipment, supplies, and instruments are assembled correctly and in working condition for surgical procedures. They maintain sterile environments. They monitor the sterile field and recognize breaks in technique. They set up a sterile field with instruments in a timely manner. They keep an accurate account of all medications, sponges, instruments, and sharps on the sterile fields per policy.
