SUMMARY
To provide high quality ultrasound studies in an efficient and timely manner. Must have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and vascular system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides high quality cardiac ultrasound images of the heart and great vessels, assessment of myocardial function, recording of hemodynamic measurements, and visualization of blood flow using 2D, M-mode, color-flow and spectral Doppler. Performs high quality ultrasound exams of the cerebral and peripheral blood vessels Uses patient identification techniques to identify patient, uses the worklist and ensures safety and privacy during all procedures Able to adequately explain test procedures and answer patient questions regarding ultrasound exams Independently performs Echocardiograms, Carotid doppler, and Lower/Upper extremity venous studies according to policy and procedure Comply with all IAC standards for the echo/vascular laboratory as applicable Able to recognize emergent results and give a preliminary report to the reading cardiologist and/or referring physician's office Able to transfer studies from the ultrasound machine to the PACS storage for the reading cardiologist to interpret in a timely manner Able to navigate through the ultrasound reporting system and help solve basic problems with the system
Merge studies to the appropriate order if needed Place study in patient folder with patient name, medical record number and physician name Print and edit studies in the reporting system Burn CD's for echo/vascular studies as needed
Clean and sanitize equipment and work area after each patient use and as needed ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilizes patient worklist appropriately Able to troubleshoot equipment for minor repairs Initiate technical support when needed for ultrasound machine and/or storage system Able to maintain adequate par values of supplies and restock as necessary for ultrasound rooms Answer unattended departmental telephones as necessary Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Must have excellent critical thinking and decision making skills Must have excellent time management and organizational skills Must have excellent interpersonal skills including excellent customer service to both patients and co-workers EDUCATION, LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION
Registered with ARDMS as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS/AE) and/or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or with CCI as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS) with >2 years clinical experience, preferred Must have current CPR certification or within 3 months of hire
