Overview:
Health Advocates for Older People is a small and dynamic nonprofit organization offering free programs and services for older adults. We are seeking an effective, organized, mission-driven professional to manage the agency’s portfolio of fundraising initiatives. This includes private and government grants, individual giving, and special events. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Development Manager will implement agency development strategy -- engaging with Board members and other volunteers, funders and community partners. This individual will also participate in shaping strategy to grow the organization’s revenue base.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
GRANTS AND INSTITUTIONAL FUNDRAISING
Prepare polished and professional written communications including grant proposals and narrative and budget reports that meet each funder and prospective funder’s unique requirements.
Apply for appropriate City and State funding and complete required invoicing and reporting to ensure receipt of allocated funds.
Research potential funding sources.
Support the efforts of the Executive Director, Board and Advisory Board members to cultivate and build new relationships for the agency.
Update and follow an annual grant calendar to document application and reporting submissions and deadlines.
SPECIAL EVENTS AND INDIVIDUAL GIVING
Support fundraising and awareness events, namely the Treasures Gala in October and Jazz in the Garden in June, including coordinating with event committee volunteers, tracking donations, corresponding with donors, organizing event meetings and managing other details and logistics.
Implement a Year-End Appeal and other themed-giving opportunities.
Support the Executive Director in nurturing Board and other current and prospective donor relationships.
Assist in identifying new donor prospects.
Participate in creating digital and printed materials such as invitations, brochures, website blogs, social media posts, and press releases.
FUNDRAISING OPERATIONS AND OTHER ROLES
Accurately record all pledges and revenue in Donor Perfect.
Manage donor lists: regularly update and review for accuracy and consistency.
Develop, regularly produce, and analyze fund raising reports and data to identify trends and revenue generating opportunities; report to the Board on agency fundraising results.
Complete administrative tasks related to agency fundraising including but not limited to producing mail merged appeals and donation acknowledgements.
Attend and assist in executing agencywide events.
GENERAL
Participate in strategic discussions with the Executive Director and Board members about agency fundraising planning and the mix of revenue sources.
Support the Board’s Development Committee.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, Board members, and event committee volunteers to achieve objectives
Initiative and creativity
Experience with New York State and City government funding and with New York City foundation funders of causes for older adults a plus
Extensive background in Donor Perfect; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); skills in Canva a plus
5-7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
Bachelor’s Degree
