Salary Range: $100,000-140,000, depending on experience

Position Overview:

Spriggs Excavation is seeking a motivated and driven leader to join our Accounting team as Controller. This role partners closely with the CFO and Accounting Manager to refine and scale our financial systems, reporting, and processes in alignment with our continued growth.

The Controller will play a key role in shaping the department's direction, driving process improvements, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data that supports operational decision-making. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced construction environment and demonstrates a strong commitment to our company culture and core values.

Candidates should bring a solid foundation in accounting or finance, with 7+ years of experience in the construction industry or a related field, and the ability to translate financial insights into operational results. This position offers the opportunity to build on existing systems, lead data-driven initiatives, and contribute meaningfully to the company's long-term success.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job cost accounting. Prepare and review monthly financial statements, job cost reports, and reporting packages. Manage monthly close process, ensuring timely, accurate, and GAAP-compliant reporting. Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and ensure proper documentation of all financial activity. Budgeting & Forecasting

Support the CFO and project teams in updating budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses. Provide financial insight and data-driven recommendations to improve performance and profitability. Internal Controls & Compliance

Implement and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. Ensure compliance with state, federal, and industry regulations, including prevailing wage and certified payroll. Coordinate year-end financial compilation with the external CPA firm. Leadership & Team Development

Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Must be able to maintain Spriggs' core values and consistently lead with them. Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. A CPA or CMA a plus. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in construction or heavy civil industries preferred. Solid understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP reporting, and cost accounting principles. Proven leadership experience managing a small to mid-size accounting team. Proficiency with construction ERP/accounting systems and proficient Excel skills. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Offering
