SUMMARY:

Under the direction of Urgent Care Practice Manager and indirectly under the direction of the TMH Manager Medical Imaging, performs a variety of technical radiographic procedures; applies prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Performs clerical duties as well as EKG and phlebotomy functions. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the pediatric, adult and geriatric patient and adapt their care to the physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs. RESPONSIBILITIES:

pFollows the Urgent Care Centers workflow protocols to maximize quality and efficiency. Works effectively and respectfully at his/her highest capabilities and training.ppProtects and preserves the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality in accordance with Brown University Health’s policies.ppMeets, greets, answers questions, and provides an understandable explanation of radiologic examinations, EKGs and phlebotomy tests to patients in order to reduce apprehension. Provides for safety and comfort of all patients, in accordance with prescribed standards.ppAnswers phones and performs registration and checkout duties in accordance with policies.ppRooms patients, ensures that exam room is cleaned between each patient and set-up appropriately according to policy and procedures.ppSchedules patients for radiologic examinations in a prescribed manner, ensuring an efficient patient flow. Places orders and tracks exams with accuracy, consistency and promptness.ppPerforms required patient identification procedure on all patients presenting for a radiologic exam.pPerforms radiographic exams demonstrating sound understanding of applicable equipment, anatomical positioning, physiology, and technical factors, in order to produce optimum results.ppTransfers the images to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for physician review.ppScans documents into applicable systems for archiving and retrieval.ppFollows protocols for appropriate usage of the applicable software such as Lifechart, PACS, Etc. and understands downtime processes.ppPerforms required quality control procedures and ensures equipment is performing as expected. Reports unit issues to Manager Medical Imaging.ppPlaces EKG leads on patients to ensure a good tracing is recorded, performs EKG tracings. Ensures the tracings are properly labeled and made part of the patient’s medical record.ppMaintains orderliness, cleanliness and adequate supplies for assigned area.ppProvides coverage for the department as required and needed, including weekends and holidays, demonstrates coverage flexibility with shifts and locations.ppParticipates in the training and instruction of new Urgent Care Radiology Techs.ppMaintains quality assurance, safety regulations, environmental, and infection control, in accordance with established hospital and department policies, procedures and objectives.ppManages time effectively. Fills slow periods with activities to prepare for future needs. Minimizes non-productive time.ppAttire and personal appearance must conform to departmental guidelines and standards.ppProvides for safety and comfort of all patients in accordance with prescribed standards.ppPerforms other related duties, as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

pBASIC KNOWLEDGE:pCompletion of formal training in an AMA-approved accredited school of radiologic technology or equivalent. Maintains a current license to work in the State of Rhode Island. Must hold current ARRT certification.pBasic life support certification required.pDemonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the Brown University Health, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.ppEXPERIENCE:pOne-year experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.pDemonstrates strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, visitors, physicians and staff of all levels and display empathy towards all patients.ppWORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:pHealthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians’ offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.pWalks and stands intermittently throughout the day. Subject to electrical and energy hazards. May lift and position patients and lift supplies up to 50 pounds. Pay Range: $30.39-$50.16
