Position: Mechanical Millwright Apprentice
Location: Birmingham, AL
Job Type: Part Time
Reports to: Mechanical Supervisor
Department: North American Operations
Position Purpose: As a Mechanical Millwright Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced millwrights to learn the skills necessary to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical systems. This hands-on role is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in industrial maintenance and mechanical trade.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Demonstrates the values and business principles of Leadec. • Works safely at all times. • Read and interpret mechanical drawings for equipment fabrication and assembly • Perform precise layouts for new or relocated equipment installations • Safely and effectively use all hand tools relevant to the trade • Assist with rigging operations: bull rigging experience is a plus • Operate industrial equipment including carry deck cranes, rigger forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts and high-reach lulls • Utilize heavy-duty machine roller, toe-jacks, and air bearings (preferred) • Conduct precise measurements using calipers and micrometers • Support pip fitting tasks across various pipe types (screw, weld, copper, glue joints) • Assist with welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Sticks); welding experience is a plus • Participate in bearing removal and installation • Align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances • Use oxyacetylene torch for flame cutting and steel heating • Operate Theodolite surveying equipment (preferred) • Travel for out-of-town assignments as needed • Collaborate effectively with team members and demonstrate a strong work ethic • Adhering to and supporting all EHS and Quality objectives, in accordance with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 respectively. • All other duties as assigned by Leadec manager.

Position Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred • Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial maintenance • Ability to follow instructions and work safely • Strong communication and teamwork skills • Work under immediate supervision
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the key actions of the job: • Required to talk and/or hear in an industrial setting (noise level is high). Frequently required to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for 4 -12 hours. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; climb or balance: kneel, crawl, stoop, or crouch. • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and focus adjustment. • Work is performed in an industrial-manufacturing environment with occasional time spent working on a computer or at a desk.
