Southern Boone County R-I School District is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to serve as the
Director of Transportation . This leadership role oversees the safe, efficient, and effective operation of the district's transportation services, including student bus routes, vehicle maintenance, driver supervision, and compliance with local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
This position is open to both
certified
and
non-certified
applicants who demonstrate the necessary experience, leadership skills, and commitment to student safety and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities: Direct and supervise all school transportation operations, including routing, scheduling, and personnel. Ensure compliance with all applicable transportation laws, safety regulations, and district policies. Develop and manage the transportation budget, including fuel, maintenance, staffing, and vehicle acquisition. Hire, train, evaluate, and support transportation staff including drivers and mechanics. Maintain records and prepare reports related to transportation operations, incidents, and inspections. Coordinate closely with school administrators, parents, and the community to ensure quality service. Implement and enforce safety training programs for drivers and staff. Respond to transportation-related emergencies and weather conditions as needed. Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Candidates: Valid teacher or administrator certificate. Experience in educational leadership or school operations is a plus. Non-Certified Candidates:
Strong background in transportation, logistics, public safety, or operations management preferred. Experience in a school or public-sector setting. Knowledge of pupil transportation regulations and best practices preferred. Required Qualifications (All Applicants): Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and manage personnel effectively. Understanding of or willingness to learn school transportation laws and requirements. Valid driver's license; CDL with appropriate endorsements preferred or willingness to obtain. Salary & Benefits:
This is a 12 month position, working 260 days.
Salary will be competitive and based on qualifications and experience.
