The Michigan Milk Producers Association is a dairy farmer owned cooperative and dairy processor. Founded in 1916, the MMPA serves dairy farmers in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.

MMPA maintains a strong presence within the dairy industry with strategic business relationships through a variety of channels like processing shelf-stable, value added dairy products. MMPA has four member owned processing plants in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, including Superior Dairy and the Middlebury Cheese Company. Products made at MMPA's plants include fluid milk, sour cream, cheese, ultra-filtered milk, cottage cheese, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream and condensed skim milk.

As the

Assistant Controller , you'll support the Financial Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and upholding compliance with US GAAP. Key responsibilities include preparing financial statements, assisting with budgets and forecasts, reconciling accounts, preparing journal entries, and coordinating with auditors. This role connects daily accounting tasks with broader financial strategy and collaboration across departments.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, organized, and an effective communicator with a strong understanding of computerized accounting systems and GAAP principles.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational support: Prepare and record monthly transactions, reconcile accounts, and identify, communicate, and resolve discrepancies in financial records. Responsible for the retention of all recorded transactions Cash Flow Reconciliation: Support daily/weekly/monthly requirements in reconciliation, reporting, and forecasting on cash positions per necessary. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, perform financial analyses, and study financial trends to inform strategic decisions. Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist with developing, monitoring, and evaluating budgets and financials forecasts, setting financial goals and strategies to achieve them. Internal Controls: Help design, implement, and maintain internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting principles. Compliance & Auditing: Ensure adherence to accounting standards and regulations, assist with internal and external audits, and help prepare documentation and reports for regulatory bodies. Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in financial processes and implement new policies and procedures. Coordinating and researching special projects as needed. Assist cost accountants on various projects and reporting needs. Corporate contact for banks and forward contracting. Other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting 3+ years of accounting experience CPA Preferred- not required Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, especially Excel) Experience with ERP - Preference in Microsoft D365 Problem Solving, account reconciliation experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills Auditing experience with a strong eye for errors and inconsistencies Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads to meet tight deadlines.
