The Role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee all aspects of the company's global payroll function and ensure the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of the company's global payroll operations including multi-state US payroll. Based in New York City, this role will manage payroll governance, supervise payroll staff, and provide strategic oversight of processes as well as serve as backup for payroll processing. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for oversight, reviews, compliance with International, federal and state wage regulations across multiple jurisdictions, and serving as a key liaison between Finance, HR, and external vendors.

Responsibilities Provide oversight for payroll operations across multiple states, ensuring compliance with all International, and US federal, state, and local wage and tax regulations. Serve as back up for payroll processing across all entities. Supervise payroll staff responsible for day-to-day processing, providing guidance, training, and support. Serve as the subject matter expert for compliance, including monitoring legislative changes and implementing necessary updates. Coordinate with Benefits team to administer and audit payroll-related benefit deductions and act as the payroll lead on common improvement initiatives (e.g. Leave of absence tracking) Stay current on payroll-related legislation and lead compliance initiatives. Manage payroll audits and provide necessary documentation to external auditors. Assist with annual US Workers Compensation insurance audit and renewal. Maintain robust documentation of payroll policies, processes and internal controls. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and compliance. Partner with systems team to test and approve configuration changes as needed. Maintain relationships with payroll vendors (e.g., ADP, Workday). Oversee, review and approve bonus runs, year-end submissions of annual and quarterly filings (e.g., W2s, W3s, 940s, 941s, amendments and state quarterly filings). Act as an escalation point for complex payroll inquiries, employee issues, or compliance matters. Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred. 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3+ years in a managerial or supervisory role. Proven experience overseeing multi-state payroll for a mid-size to large organization. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Proficiency in payroll/HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Workday, or equivalent). Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) credential strongly preferred Compensation The rate for this position generally is $120,000 - $170,000 annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
