General Purpose of Job
The Senior Quality Assurance Manager - Packaging will drive the Quality Systems program across multiple manufacturing facilities. This vital role involves the development, interpretation, and implementation of company-wide quality policies while managing adherence to quality systems and facilitating compliance inspections. The manager will support the manufacturing, testing, and release of raw materials, semi-finished goods, and final products, ensuring they meet customer standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Compliance & Assurance
Ensure quality compliance at all packaging facilities and address any non-conformances.
Enforce adherence to Quad Packaging Quality System and regulatory standards for food packaging.
Set and uphold quality expectations across all production departments.
Manage documentation and resolution of compliance issues effectively.
Review Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) documents for alignment with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory standards.
Corrective & Preventive Actions (CAPA)
Initiate and manage root cause investigations and corrective actions across locations.
Evaluate and track the effectiveness of corrective actions.
Oversee customer complaint processes and lead investigations into quality issues.
Implement improvement actions to prevent future occurrences of quality complaints.
Audit & Inspection Management
Lead and assist with various audits (SQF, AIB, ISO) to maintain necessary certifications.
Prepare facilities for customer audits and inspections.
Oversee and manage the Quality audit plan, including scheduling and follow-up actions.
Coordinate customer-initiated audits ensuring complete documentation and responsive actions.
Leadership & Strategic Oversight
Provide leadership to Quality Leaders across all factories and internal audit teams.
Hold monthly meetings to review costs of quality, trends, and performance metrics.
Establish a strategic quality vision that aligns with company goals.
Conduct Quality Management Review meetings with senior management.
Encourage a culture of “right first time” and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with plant leadership and production teams on quality investigations and solutions.
Communicate quality matters effectively with internal teams and external clients.
Respond to customer complaints swiftly and confidently.
Facilitate customer interactions, including visits and audit preparations.
Data & Systems Management
Analyze data concerning process validations and improvement measures.
Consolidate plant reports to monitor quality system failures and trends.
Audit consistency of customer product testing databases regularly.
Maintain and coordinate calibration logs and systems across factories.
Verify receipt of returned goods and ensure proper credit issuance.
Training & Development
Provide guidance and training on regulations, guidelines, and company procedures.
Assess and enhance the capabilities of quality team members.
Support HR in addressing performance issues related to quality staff.
Lead quality initiatives and focus groups for enhanced awareness and understanding.
Process & Product Control
Manage quality control processes for raw, semi-finished, and finished products.
Implement quality process controls across all operational areas (facilities, equipment, materials, production).
Drive accountability in vendor performance, defect investigation, and quality data analysis.
Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Food Science, Packaging, or related field required.
Advanced degree (MBA, MS) preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management within manufacturing, packaging, or food production.
Experience managing multi-site quality systems and leading cross-functional teams.
Proven success in regulatory compliance, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.
Travel
30% travel to manufacturing plants, including international locations.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Preferred certifications in Quality Management (ASQ Certified Quality Manager, Six Sigma, ISO Lead Auditor).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS), regulatory standards (SQF, AIB, ISO, GMP), and industry practices related to packaging and food safety.
Exceptional analytical skills and data interpretation capabilities.
Outstanding communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
Proficiency in root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and audit management.
Able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and a keen attention to detail.
Proficient in quality management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
