Position Summary

The

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)

is responsible for performing high-complexity clinical laboratory testing on patient specimens, reviewing and reporting patient results, conducting quality control and assurance activities, and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laboratory, quality, and safety requirements. The nature of this work requires exceptional attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Type:

One-year contract position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform molecular genetic testing on clinical specimens.

Follow standard operating procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and result recording.

Perform, review, and document laboratory quality control procedures in accordance with the Quality Assurance Program.

Complete assigned laboratory and non-laboratory tasks.

Prepare reagents required for laboratory testing.

Participate in training and continuing education activities.

Perform proficiency testing for clinical assays.

Assist with research and validation activities.

Independently identify and troubleshoot issues that may affect test performance.

Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

Follow standard operating procedures for quality, environmental health, and safety; report any quality or safety concerns to the Lab Supervisor or Safety Officer.

Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and participate in regulatory inspections as required.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues and management in a team environment.

Perform other laboratory- or site-specific duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

Active

California Department of Public Health

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license or

Clinical Genetic Molecular Biology Scientist (CGMBS)

license (no exceptions).

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Detail-oriented and comfortable with technology.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience in high-complexity clinical laboratory testing, preferably in molecular diagnostics.

Experience with molecular testing methods (PCR, microarray, Sanger/NGS sequencing) a plus.

Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to adapt to change and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment.

Maintains continuing education units required by the

California Department of Health Services

and the

New York State Department of Health .
