Black & Veatch is seeking a Power System Protection Engineer with 2 years of experience to join our Protective Relay Settings team. The ideal candidate has an understanding of Protection & Control (P&C) design concepts, familiarity with relay manufacturer software platforms, and familiarity with system modeling software. Candidates located near any Black & Veatch Regional Office may be considered. Responsibilities

Engineering Standards: Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures. Engineering Standards: Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate. Quality/Continuous Improvement: Develops knowledge and complies with Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks. Quality/Continuous Improvement: Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts. Engineering Production: Prepares and verifies less complex engineering deliverables. Engineering Production: Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Engineering Production: Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work. Engineering Production: Prepares engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Engineering Production: Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Project Coordination: Seeks supervisor or project leadership to share information and gain guidance with respect to design details and interdisciplinary coordination. Project Coordination: Coordinates with others as assigned by supervisor or project leadership. Client Focus: Focuses on the needs of internal clients (project team leadership) while developing an understanding of external client interests and drivers. Client Focus: May provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Shares knowledge of current technology and processes. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 1 year related work experience. Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search) as required by law and regulation. Preferred Qualifications

2 years of experience in Transmission, Distribution, or Power Generation. Understanding of basic Protection & Control design concepts (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring). 2 years of experience in development of protective relay settings. Familiarity with system modeling software (ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, SKM, etc.). Knowledge of protection schemes in Transmission, Distribution and Renewable Substations. Familiarity with Mathcad and Excel for protective setting calculations. Familiarity with communication protocols (DNP, SEL, MMS, Modbus, etc.). Knowledge of IEC 61850 (GOOSE, MMS, SV) and its implementation. Familiarity with protective relays in substation environments (microprocessor, electronic, electromechanical). Ability to develop protective setpoints per standards, practices, and client requirements. Ability to develop downloadable setpoint files on proprietary relay software platforms (e.g., SEL AcSELerator Quickset, GE Enervista). Ability to develop and manipulate protection and control logic.
