Position Summary An Assistant Director of Intake and Informal Resolution oversees the screening of complaints and conducts fact‑finding sessions to assess next steps; facilitates mediations, dialogues, and other conflict‑resolution processes for protected‑class complaints; investigates claims under federal and state civil‑rights laws, Title IX, Section 504, and district policies; prepares responses and liaises with governmental agencies; and creates and conducts training on conflict resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Screen, process, and manage protected‑class discrimination and sexual harassment complaints.
Facilitate resolution activities for cases that do not proceed to investigation.
Support investigations of Title VII, Title IX, ELCRA, EEOC, ADA, Section 504, and ADEA complaints.
Monitor compliance with Title VII, Title IX, ADA, and ADEA to promote an equitable work environment.
Schedule follow‑up to monitor progress after assisted resolution and/or investigation.
Collaborate with district staff and stakeholders to facilitate interim supportive measures.
Consult district staff, advising managers and Human Resources on disciplinary issues.
Provide official responses to discrimination/harassment complaints filed with agencies such as MERC, MDCR, EEOC, US DOE, and OCR.
Analyze departmental data for internal reports and federal/state reporting requirements.
Develop policies, procedures, and administrative guidelines for civil‑rights and Title IX programs.
Assist administrators and supervisors in interpreting district rules and procedures.
Support other job duties and functions as assigned by the Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Required).
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school (Preferred).
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience conducting civil‑rights, Title IX, or compliance investigations; or
Minimum of 3 years facilitating informal resolutions or mediations arising from such investigations.
Knowledge of state, federal, and local statutes, orders, court rulings, and programs affecting civil rights and Title IX (Required).
Knowledge of conflict‑resolution best practices, including restorative justice approaches (Preferred).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, and case‑management systems (Preferred).
Proficiency in Adobe.
Experience interacting with law enforcement or governmental agencies (Preferred).
Experience developing and delivering training programs (Preferred).
Experience working in a compliance, urban public‑school, or large/complex organization (Preferred).
Security Clearance Internal Applicants: No new clearance required unless a different background check is needed for the role. External Applicants: Must undergo a criminal background check in accordance with Michigan law.
