Teach five sections of courses in the Science Department Courses taught will include Physics Honors and a combination of Integrated Science 9 and/or Biology Create a positive learning environment for the acquisition of scientific knowledge and skills Plan, develop, and utilize lab-based lessons safely and effectively to incorporate experimentation, observation, and problem-solving Utilize a diverse array of activities, materials, media, and techniques to create a rich educational experience Create lesson plans and modify them accordingly throughout the year Ability to develop curricula that provides a robust experiential learning experience that promotes deeper thinking Ability to collaborate with teachers across disciplines to develop interdisciplinary curriculum and projects Implement best practices to support the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences Provide consistent, timely, and constructive feedback both in writing and verbally Foster an environment in which students learn to think critically and independently Communicate effectively with a variety of different constituencies in writing and verbally Demonstrate patience and empathy with adolescents and focus on fully developing well-rounded individuals Implement best practices to support the needs of students with diagnosed learning differences Attend department meetings and other meetings as assigned Serve as a member of a dorm family Coach one season of an extracurricular activity Other duties as assigned Educational and Experiential Background and Credentials
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Biology, or a related field 3+ years of teaching experience Student-centered educator, skilled in facilitating student discussion and collaboration Experience in curriculum design and innovative teaching practices Ability to write clearly and effectively in a variety of formats Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate well and effectively with colleagues, parents, and students alike Preferred: Master’s degree in Physics, Biology, or a related field Prior experience working with students with diagnosed learning differences Prior experience in a boarding school setting Other Expectations
This position is a member of a boarding school faculty. Candidates should be interested in contributing outside of the classroom and becoming fully involved in the student life program. Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of school life.
