About the role:
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Manager is an advocate for the nursing professional development team and manages the activities and personnel in the NPD department to provide the development of clinical excellence in assigned areas through active participation in education, role development, collaborative partnerships, research/evidence-based practice/quality/performance improvement, onboarding/orientation, and competency management. The NPD Manager functions as a learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD specialty and partner for practice transitions as they guide the department toward desired outcomes. The NPD Manager is responsible for enhancing quality and safety, and improving patient outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the Nursing Professional Development department, managing personnel and departmental activities.
Develop and implement evidence‑based educational programs and competency management.
Collaborate with nursing leadership to support clinical units and facilitate continuous performance improvement.
Monitor and improve nursing workforce development, including onboarding, orientation, and professional growth.
Manage budgeting, staffing, and resource utilization within department targets.
Champion quality improvement initiatives and contribute to organizational standards and best practices.
Provide leadership for change management, conflict resolution, and staff engagement.
Maintain professional standards, regulatory compliance, and evidence‑based practice integration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Minimum two (2) years in a Nursing Professional Development role or prior clinical leadership experience.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel).
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of ANPD skills and standards for Nursing Professional Development.
Leadership ability and familiarity with leadership principles and management skills.
Knowledge of regulatory standards (CMS, DNV, TJC, OSHA) for professional specialty served.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in an acute care hospital setting.
Master’s degree in nursing or related field.
Clinical or leadership certification.
Advanced Life Support Provider Certification, per specialty.
ANCC Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD‑BC).
Licensure / Certification:
Current, valid Florida State of Nursing license as a registered professional nurse.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Certification.
Supervisory responsibilities:
Provides direct leadership to Nursing Professional Development Specialists and Practitioners.
Coaches and provides growth opportunities to the team.
Manages time and attendance.
Directs PDO approval and scheduling.
