Primary Talent Partners is recruiting for a
Senior Mechanical Project Engineer
on a 6‑month W2 contract in Luling, LA. The position offers a base rate of $80.00–$90.00 per hour, with no PTO or benefits and an ACA‑compliant supplemental package available for enrollment.
Responsibilities
Familiarity with and utilization of Bayer and Luling design and drafting standards
Mastery of the Bayer Gated System and their respective documentation requirements; FEL 1 (Project Acceptance), FEL 2 (Project Charter) and FEL 3 (Project Scope)
Development of preliminary project description, schedule and cost estimates upon project assignment
Accomplishing engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, equipment and material procurement specifications, calculations and piping estimates
Developing conceptual layouts / cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving the engineering task at hand;including not to proceed if not feasible or cost‑attractive
Producing estimate‑level preliminary designs / material take‑offs for the level of estimate being performed on a project
Development of formal project scopes and capital request documentation
Producing detailed design calculations and sketches for material of constructions associated with the project
Reviewing and checking vendor / other discipline drawings for mechanical input
Checking calculations and equipment specifications by others to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, industry standards, design criteria, site/global Bayer standards and conformance to good engineering practice
In‑depth knowledge of design standards and codes as applicable to rotating and static piping systems and equipment
Knowledge of good design practices for piping systems, sizing of compressible fluid piping, flexibility and stress analysis of piping systems, application and knowledge of piping supports
Identification of need for safety devices (PSVs, PSE, CVs) and phase separation equipment (steam traps, liquid strainers)
Produce designs with efficient use of construction material with emphasis on ease of construction and meeting the project goals
Estimate and schedule professional service hours and assess the progress / quality of the mechanical work
Assist other engineers in developing and assembling scopes, drawings/specifications into packages, enabling mechanical purchase inquiries to be issued for procurement and materials or for subcontract pricing; this may include packaged equipment where soliciting input from other disciplines to provide requirements for associated structural, instrument and electrical aspects of the scope
Perform fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie‑ins and provide construction support
Project approval, procurement and budget forecasting
Provide technical and project management guidance to less experienced engineering and drafting personnel in the department
Development of construction work scope / packages and onsite support during construction, commissioning and startup
Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications
Recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project
Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements to produce all mechanical deliverables
Project Quality Assurance and Quality control direction and support
Project closure
Qualifications
B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university is required
ABET certified institution
Professional Engineering (PE) registration is a plus
5+ years of relevant industrial experience in mechanical engineering
Strong project management and multitasking skills
Demonstrated creativity, innovation and ingenuity
Self‑motivated, results driven

Solid verbal and written communication and computer skills, Microsoft Suite
