Position Summary
Engineering Specialist Level 4: The Hourly Engineering Specialist is responsible for supporting CNC machining operations through technical expertise, equipment setup, troubleshooting, and process optimization. This role ensures precision, efficiency, and quality in the production of machined components.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Perform routine and emergency maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.
Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
Present and/or teach technical requirements for Automation operation, machine alignment and advanced repair methods (TCP, etc)
Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment.
Coordinate process training (including machine options, programming, cell operations) internally
Work with NC Programmers where appropriate to get their input on new toolpath strategies or develop custom toolpaths based upon R&D.
Develop, Implement, and Support connections between new automation projects and knowledge-based applications including but not limited to TMAC monitoring for machining process
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for efficiency and reliability.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and safety teams to ensure compliance with operational standards.
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a culture of safety and accountability.
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC machines (mills, lathes, etc.) to meet production specifications.
Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models to ensure accurate machining.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machining processes and reduce cycle times.
Monitor tool wear and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
Document machine settings, tooling changes, and process improvements.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and quality control procedures.
Required Skills
Basic-level knowledge of Dassault Systemes PLM Solutions including CATIA (V4/V5/V6), DELMIA, and ENOVIA.
Advanced working knowledge of NC programming, including Macro variable programming and probing routines
Experience with tooling selection for various processes, and an understanding of sound part fixturing concepts.
Have background with SPC, CPK, and CMM
Knowledge of Hard Metal / Soft Metal Machining and TMAC machine monitoring
Basic use and interpretation of measuring equipment such as tape measure, micrometer, caliper, etc.
The ability to perform basic shop math, fractions, decimals.
Ability to communicate effectively to team members, lead, supervisor, manager or others.
The ability to operate forklift, overhead crane, pallet jack, and fixtures.
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.
Experience & Education
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in CNC machining or manufacturing preferred.
5+ years of experience operating and maintaining CNC equipment (Production machining environment)
2+ years of experience operating and maintaining automation equipment and processes
Strong understanding of G-code, M-code, and CNC programming principles.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
Highly skilled with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.).
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Working Conditions
Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
Constant exposure to moderate noise
Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
Must be able to work any shift including overtime, weekends and holidays if scheduled.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane and forklift.
Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment including respirator.
Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.
Visual acuity skills to operate powered industrial equipment to load and to unload parts into / onto equipment and to transport parts into other areas of the facility.
