Role Overview The Cost Accounting Manager is a key financial leader responsible for improving cost visibility, driving process efficiency, and supporting strategic decision-making across the organization. This role oversees product costing, cost variance analysis, inventory valuation, and cost reporting. It combines hands‑on accounting expertise with a business‑partnering approach, collaborating closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Leadership to enhance profitability and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the accuracy of product costing, cost of goods sold (COGS), and related financial reporting.
Perform variance analysis, including material, labor, overhead, and purchase price differences.
Lead standard margin reporting and identify performance drivers against budget and forecast.
Partner with manufacturing teams to monitor and reduce production inefficiencies and scrap.
Oversee inventory valuation, reserves, and reconciliation processes.
Maintain and analyze Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and cost structures to ensure accuracy.
Lead cost reviews for existing and new products, ensuring alignment with standard costing practices.
Develop labor efficiency metrics and performance dashboards with plant and finance leadership.
Support the annual budget process, including cost roll‑ups and forecasting.
Serve as the cost accounting lead within the ERP system, managing master data accuracy and cost reporting tools.
Oversee physical and cycle inventory programs to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership for cost improvement and margin enhancement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Minimum of 4 years of progressive cost accounting experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
CPA or CMA certification preferred.
ERP system experience (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar) required.
Advanced Excel proficiency; Power BI, Tableau, or other BI tool experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles, including standard costing and inventory valuation.
