Job Overview The Senior, Accountant will support the overall Corporate Accounting group in our goal of timely and materially accurate period-end close processing and financial reporting. The role will have accounting responsibilities primarily relating to self-insurance costs, consolidations, intercompany transactions, prepaid expenses and other corporate accruals. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of relevant accounting standards, solid organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate across functions.

Job Responsibilities

Analyze and account for certain self-insurance costs in accordance with relevant corporate accounting policies and ASC 450.

Prepares the monthly consolidation process for all entities, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of consolidated financial statements.

Prepares the reconciliation, adjustment, and elimination of intercompany transactions in accordance with accounting policies.

Prepares the accounting for certain prepaid expenses and corporate accruals.

Ensure timely and accurate preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with corporate accounting policies.

Responsible for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting issues and discrepancies.

Assists in supporting internal and external audit requests.

Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with others including peers across finance, business stakeholders, and management.

Performs other relevant job duties as required.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

Experience

4+yrs of accounting-related experience.

Wholesale distribution or retail experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to partner with a multitude of key stakeholders.

Solid understanding of US GAAP and the ability to apply accounting guidance to transactions.

Proficiency with advanced Excel functions.

High level of attention to details.

Able to identify process inefficiencies and implement effective solutions.

Ability to work with limited supervision.

Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment

This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office on a regular basis, they may be required to come to the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.

Travel (minor)

This position may require the associate to travel to company offices, distribution centers, or other locations for specific meetings or other business reasons.

Physical Environment/Demands

Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment.

Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday.

Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in the completion of job duties.
