Position Summary

Full‑time temporary position available on or after December 1, 2025 for Athletic Communications. Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance. This position’s responsibilities are carried out under general supervision. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing sports information and media relations programs of moderate scope and complexity. Duties include serving as a media liaison, coordinating press conferences and media interviews, creating content for communication platforms (including websites, social media, and game‑day programs), and producing statistics, rosters, and recaps. The incumbent ensures communications comply with NCAA and Conference rules, provides input on publicity and marketing initiatives, and analyzes statistical summaries for coaches, media, and conferences. The role requires independent judgment, collaboration with university communications, and the ability to provide lead work direction to staff and student employees.

Job Duties

Create accurate and engaging content for the athletics website, social media platforms, and printed/game‑day programs. Produce or oversee game‑day materials, including rosters, statistics, and recaps. Conduct interviews and background research to develop feature stories and press releases. Manage and maintain official athletics social media accounts, including scheduling, posting, monitoring, and follower engagement. Develop and execute a comprehensive social media calendar to support messaging consistency and drive engagement. Collaborate with photographers, designers, and contributors to produce multimedia content (photos, videos, graphics). Track performance using web analytics and social media metrics, applying insights to improve reach and impact. Coordinate game‑day operations, including media credentialing, press box / media area setup, and technical logistics. Ensure availability and accuracy of live statistics and event summaries following competitions. Compile, analyze, and distribute statistical reports for coaches, media, conferences, and historical records. Support real‑time event coverage through live updates, statistics, and recaps. Oversee and train student assistants assigned to statistical reporting and event coverage. Troubleshoot operational and technical issues during athletic events to ensure smooth delivery of communications. Set up, operate, and monitor live streaming of athletic events to ensure high‑quality broadcast delivery. Coordinate with technical staff, vendors, or streaming platforms to support broadcasts. Provide real‑time support for statistical integration, graphics, and audio/video feeds during live streams. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure compliance with conference and NCAA streaming requirements. Serve as a contact and media liaison for media inquiries related to the Athletics Department. Coordinate and facilitate press conferences, interviews, and media coverage with university communications staff. Represent Athletics as the on‑site communications lead during live events, including coordinating timely media access and post‑game interviews. Ensure all communications comply with NCAA and relevant conference rules. Promote and publicise athletic programs by identifying newsworthy stories and pitching them to media outlets. Provide input for publicity, branding, and marketing initiatives to enhance program visibility. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (coaches, athletic staff, university communications, media, and community partners). Ensure consistency of athletics brand identity and messaging across communication channels. Provide lead work direction to student employees and less experienced staff. Recommend and implement improvements to communication processes, workflows, and tools. Support promotional campaigns and community engagement initiatives to enhance visibility of athletics programs. Stay current with industry best practices, technology, and NCAA requirements in sports information and digital media. May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards. At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas within department as needed. Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Two (2) years of relevant experience. (An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis) Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. (Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis)

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or closely related field. Relevant experience in a CSU or higher education setting. Prior experience in sports information at an NCAA Division II (or higher) intercollegiate athletics program, including writing official athletics communications such as media press releases. Knowledge of NCAA, CCAA, CSU, and university statistical and reporting requirements. Experience with game day marketing and promotions. Proficiency in relevant sports information software, such as ARMS, Pixellot, BlueFrame, StatCrew (Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer), SIDEARM, and The Automated Scorebook (Baseball and Softball).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working skills and knowledge of communications, media relations, and related roles. Working knowledge of sports information principles and best practices, including statistical analysis and game‑day operations. Demonstrated experience with digital media management tools and platforms, including content management systems, social media platforms, and photo/video editing software. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to sports information and media relations. Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies and campaigns. Ability to provide lead work direction to others. Ability to summarize statistics as they relate to research or sports information. Strong knowledge and understanding of sports terminology for relevant sports. Strong organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively and appropriately engage various stakeholders.

Special Conditions

This position may be required to travel to our Stockton / Turlock campus or third‑party agencies. This position may be required to work beyond regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or during emergencies, based on operational needs and in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

Salary Range

Anticipated starting salary: $5,178 (step 1) per month plus excellent paid benefits. Full range: $5,178 (step 1) – $7,543 (step 20). Future increases, including step advancement, are subject to contract negotiations.
