Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled OR physician assistant or NP/RNFA to join our cardiac surgery OR team. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to partner with cardiac surgeons and OR Nursing staff.
Schedule
Four ten-hour clinical shifts/week
On-call requirement during non-routine working hours to assist attending physicians in urgent and emergency procedures
Responsibilities
Assist cardiothoracic surgeons during surgical procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair/replacement, and other complex cardiac surgeries
Perform tissue handling including making incisions, retracting, dissecting, tying, ligating, stapling, suturing and providing hemostasis
Perform chest closure, including chest wires when indicated. Routinely closes the leg and chest soft tissue layers. Assists in transporting the patient from the O.R. to the CVSICU/ PACU
Performs endoscopic or open harvesting of the saphenous vein during coronary artery bypass procedures and preparation of the vein for bypass
Performs endoscopic or open harvesting of the radial artery during coronary artery bypass procedures and prepares radial artery for bypass
First or second assisting with cannulation, graft anastomosis, valve placement, decannulation, femoral access catheters (including IABP) or any other task of open-heart procedures
Requirements
Current licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Maryland.
Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Master's or Doctorate Nursing program, Acute Care NP.
For Acute Care NP, is a certified RNFA.
Certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA) or Nurse Practitioner.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
OR experience preferred. Prior experience of 2 years caring for cardiac surgery patient population and proficiency in performing endovascular vein harvest (including arterial harvest) is preferred.
Salary Range Minimum 58.60/hour - Maximum 90.83/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
