About the Role & Team As a Senior Test Engineer on the Flight Software team, you will develop and maintain the test environment that verifies our flight software, supporting robust software operation on our satellite fleet in space. You will collaborate daily with flight software engineers, ground software engineers, FPGA developers, and other subsystem owners to design, implement, and execute new test scripts and system features for validating the flight software. You should have a demonstrable track record working with complex systems, understanding systems architecture, and setting comprehensive test plans.
Role Responsibilities
Design, implement, and execute test plans to identify issues, bugs, and defects before software release.
Lead the creation and execution of detailed, comprehensive, well‑structured test plans and test cases.
Develop and peer review software test code, specifically automated Python test scripts, for the Continuous Integration environment.
Perform software test trade studies involving test management tools, CI testing techniques, software simulation platforms, and more.
Analyze test results and generate test reports.
Implement automated testing tools and frameworks to optimize testing and verification processes.
Report bugs and errors to development teams, providing insightful feedback to aid decision‑making.
Liaise with internal flight software team members to clarify requirements or discuss testing strategies.
Develop requirements and testing strategies in coordination with the flight software team.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Program Management, Software Development, Flight Operations, etc.) to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
Participate in Agile sprint planning, stand‑ups, and ticket tracking.
Develop documentation and provide cross‑training to other team members.
Troubleshoot and resolve software test issues in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
Familiarity with software test development and testing methodologies.
Knowledge of Linux operating systems and standard Linux tools.
Strong knowledge of scripted languages (Python, Shell) and experience with compiled languages (C/C++).
Ability to work independently and in a team environment, delivering reliable products and documentation within deadlines.
Experience with version control, CI, configuration management, deployment automation, containers, orchestration, and software testing.
Experience with hardware‑in‑the‑loop or simulated software testing environments.
Experience working with real‑time embedded systems.
Hands‑on experience with lab equipment and electronics hardware (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).
Compliance with U.S. Government space technology export regulations (ITAR): must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylum seeker, or be eligible for required authorizations from the U.S. State Department or Commerce Department.
Compensation The annual salary range for this role is $130,500 – $148,470. The final salary will be determined by education, qualifications, skills, and experience, as well as office location and market data.
