This position is located at 6500 West Loop South at Bellaire Station. Minimally Invasive Surgeons of Texas (MIST) is a team of innovative UT Physicians surgeons dedicated to providing patients with state‑of‑the‑art surgical therapies using the least invasive, most advanced and safest techniques. MIST provides general surgery services including advanced laparoscopy, bariatric surgery, and surgical oncology. What we do here changes the world. Position Summary Functions as a member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive, safe, effective, patient‑centered, timely, efficient and equitable care to patients and families with complex health needs.

Position Key Accountabilities

Performs responsibilities promoting quality patient care and customer service.

Adheres to the scope of practice established by the Nurse Practice Act.

Ensures efficient operation of the unit by scheduling, planning, stock and supplies management, and safe equipment use.

Uses a systematic approach to assess patients using subjective and objective data.

Prioritizes, synthesizes and documents assessments and nursing plans of care.

Implements plans, delegating and monitoring to other nurses and unlicensed staff.

Initiates standing orders for prescription refills, labs, and delegation orders as appropriate.

Develops and implements teaching plans for health promotion and restoration.

Communicates effectively with the team while escalating critical results and issues timely.

Coordinates care and refers patients to agencies or professionals when indicated.

Performs onsite and telephone triage following best practice guidelines.

Advocates for patients, maintains safety, and promotes quality services.

Respects privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA.

Adheres to professional nursing standards.

Serves as a clinical and leadership resource.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills

Familiarity with typical office and clinic equipment.

Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) – required.

Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) – required.

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by AHA – preferred.

Minimum Education Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited program with one year experience; or Associate’s degree with three years experience; or Nursing Diploma with two years experience.

Minimum Experience Years vary by educational level.

Physical Requirements Exerts up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, or 10 lbs constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive This position is a security‑sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code and related statutes.
