ORTHOPEDIC TECH POSITION – BAYLOR SCOTT & WHITE DALLAS, TEXAS Facility/Location: Baylor Orthopedic Clinic - 3900 Junius St, Ste 500, Dallas, 75246
Shift/Schedule: FT - Monday – Friday; 7:30am – 5:00pm (may vary based on provider schedule)
Experience with casting/splinting application and removal
Experience with suture and staple removal
Equipment operation and maintenance skills
Certified Ortho Tech certificate a plus
Job Summary The Orthopedic Technician 2 performs or provides assistance to physicians, surgeons, and other health providers, setting stabilization devices and utilising technology related to bone care. Serves as a lead for other orthopedic techs.
Essential Functions Of The Role Assists physician in carrying out procedures with aseptic techniques and standard precautions.
Prepares patient and equipment for examination or procedure to facilitate physician efficiency.
Operates and maintains equipment safely in accordance with policies and procedures.
Safely transports cart to different facility areas as needed.
Applies and removes casts, splints, and orthopedic appliances, ensuring comfort and fit, including specialty casts such as Hip Spica and Muenster types.
Accurately fits patient with appropriate braces and splints for optimal outcomes.
Observes patient, recognises changes, and promptly seeks assistance.
Communicates effectively with patients regarding procedure maintenance, providing reassurance and education.
Demonstrates proper application of a brace and splint.
Serves as trainer for new employees.
Teaches patient‑specific exercises to aid healing; demonstrates post‑operative range‑of‑motion exercises.
Maintains a clean and serviceable environment to enhance patient care.
Orders and maintains adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Takes personal responsibility for performance‑improvement activities and initiatives.
Learns and leads in service education for other technicians.
Performs wound debridement and removes stitches and staples as required.
Additional duties may include post‑surgical casting at various hospital locations.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS Corrected vision and hearing to normal range required.
Bachelors degree preferred.
Ability to adapt communication style to different audiences; empathetic listener; sensitive, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, gracious, and tactful. Ability to calm upset patients in a composed, professional demeanor.

Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
Experience: 3 years of experience
Certification/License/Registration: Orthopedic Technologist Cert (OTC) required. Must be certified as an Orthopedic Technologist through one of:
Cert Orthopaedic Tech (OTC) from National Board of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT)
Reg Orthopedic Tech (ROT) from American Society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP)
