Surgical Technologist Outpatient Mck Same Day Surgery
Location: Avera Surgical Center-Sioux Falls

Pay Range: $22.25 - $32.25 (actual pay dependent upon experience)
A Brief Overview Assists the physician and nursing staff both in the Operating Room and Clinic with procedures and patient care as needed.
What you will do
Prepares the Operating Room for surgical procedures in a timely fashion, including organizing equipment and instruments, setting up for emergency cases, and ensuring proper equipment for all cases.
Assists the surgeon as the first or second scrub person during surgical procedures, maintaining a sterile field at all times, handling instruments efficiently, and verifying specimens.
Assists the circulating nurse to account for all instruments, needles, and sponges involved with the surgical procedure.
Maintains working knowledge of all OR machinery and equipment used on the sterile field (e.g., lasers, scope equipment, electric and nitrogen motors).
Receives and verifies correct implants for all surgical procedures (e.g., grafts, orthopedic hardware, allograft).
Assists with on-the-job training and orientation of new staff and students.
Assists in transporting patients to the OR when necessary.
Performs decontamination, assembly, and sterilization according to infection control and QA guidelines, demonstrated by annual competency review.
Operates sterilization equipment (steam, hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaner, washer/sterilizer, automated cart washer) per manufacturer directions, ensuring operator safety, as demonstrated by annual competency review.
Utilizes computers and handheld PDA for instrument decontamination, assembly, and tracking functions.

Technical Certificate – Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience
Certified Surgical Tech (CST) – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Upon Hire
1–3 years previous experience as a Surgical Technician
