Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow and improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory effectively, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement. Ensures the professional development of pharmacy staff by overseeing training, focused coaching, and executing formal performance management initiatives.
Responsibilities
Patient Experience
Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
Models and shares customer service best practices to deliver a distinctive patient experience, including empathy and inclusivity.
Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, promoting the shift of the Walgreens pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal.
Participates in events reflecting the communities served as requested by leadership.
Operations
Counsels patients on medicine usage, side effects, interactions, privacy, generics, and OTC products. Refers to medical providers as needed to ensure correct medication use and satisfaction.
Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
Reviews, interprets, and dispenses prescribed medications according to regulations and policies.
Ensures compliance with regulations and company standards; oversees staffing, scheduling, roles, and shift changes. Responsible for opening/closing the pharmacy.
Ensures Good Faith Dispensing compliance with applicable laws when filling prescriptions.
Collaborates with Store Manager to identify new strategic business opportunities.
Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems (workflow, billing, documentation, inventory, POS) and assists staff and patients with IT needs.
Ensures accurate insurance claim processing and resolves issues with insurers and providers.
Coordinates with medical providers on dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies; performs diagnostic testing and wellness services as applicable.
Performs immunizations and other clinical/wellness services as offered.
Partners with centralized support for patient registration and issue resolution; conducts virtual product reviews as required by procedures.
Maintains, cleans, and improves the pharmacy department to ensure a functional and presentable environment.
Prepares and submits records and reports required by laws to operate the pharmacy business.
People & Performance Management
Collaborates with Store Manager on hiring, discipline, termination, and compliance with employment laws. Sets expectations and goals, promotes teamwork, and recognizes improvements. Oversees training and conducts performance reviews. Identifies high-potential team members and supports career progression. Addresses employee relations and maintains morale.
Training & Personal Development
Maintains required licensing/credentialing. Keeps current with pharmacy and healthcare developments and pursues professional development. Completes required education and training modules. Seeks feedback and mentors/coaches from leadership.
Communications
Supports leadership by communicating relevant health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff.
Business Performance Management
Analyzes pharmacy performance data (financials, customer service, inventory). Manages asset protection and inventory; identifies trends and opportunities for improvement.
Business Planning
Develops relationships with local medical professionals; promotes the pharmacy business in the community and supports health and wellness awareness initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution.
Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
Certified Immunizer or willingness to become one within 90 days of hire.
At least 1 year of pharmacy experience including prescription filling, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software/technology, and insurance billing.
Experience with prescription dispensing and knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.
Internal candidates: average leadership rating of at least 3.0 with no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience managing pharmacy staff.
