Patient Care Coordinator (Medical Assistant) La Clínica del Pueblo seeks an experienced Medical Assistant to support patient care and administrative functions in an outpatient setting.

Base Pay Range $22.00/hr - $25.00/hr

Location and Classification Onsite, Washington, DC. Non‑Exempt/Hourly.

Synopsis Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff to provide comprehensive, high‑quality medical care. Work with the Chief Medical Officer, Providers, Medical and Patient Services Department, and Care Coordinators to perform Medical Assistant responsibilities that ensure patient adherence to recommended health maintenance and treatment guidelines. Quality of care and patient satisfaction are the primary goals.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).

Bilingual: Spanish and English.

Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical environment.

Preferred Experience

Experience working with HIV‑positive patients.

Experience working in Latino communities or underserved populations.

Required Skills and Certifications

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

CPR or BLS certification.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

Pediatric and adult phlebotomy skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Review charts before clinic sessions to flag pending health maintenance and treatment issues. Follow up on missing referral documentation, laboratory work, and diagnostic imaging.

Arrange internal and external referral appointments and specialist care.

Communicate supply needs to supervisor.

Monitor patient panel for preventive measures and pending follow‑up.

Collaborate with teams to ensure task completion and continuity of care.

Check voicemails and respond to calls assigned to the team daily.

Provide patient education on treatment adherence, STD and HIV prevention, family planning, healthy habits, and related topics.

Support clinical functions with chart reviews necessary for reports.

Adhere to the PCC – Floater Role protocol when assigned.

Document all follow‑up activities and interactions in the patient’s medical record.

Participate in one‑on‑one meetings, team huddles, case reviews, and staff meetings.

Document comments, concerns, or feedback on areas of improvement. Escalate when necessary.

Support peers, clinical staff, and providers.

Create a professional, collaborative, and positive work environment.

Adhere to all La Clínica del Pueblo policies and procedures.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Medical Responsibilities

Coordinate clinic flow and support providers during procedures.

Obtain patient’s informed consent and provide before and after‑care instructions.

Administer vaccines, non‑intravenous injections, and perform venipunctures as directed.

Operate medical equipment in the office.

Administer medication as directed by a licensed clinician.

Collect blood samples using age‑appropriate venipuncture or capillary techniques; follow LCDP policies.

Perform on‑site laboratory services and patient procedures such as simple dressing changes, urine dipsticks, finger/heel sticks, A1C, EKGs, and immunizations.

Instruct patients on specimen collection and packaging for urine, stool, and timed collections.

Dispose of biological waste, needles, and hazardous materials per laboratory safety and infection control practices.

Follow defined laboratory procedures and support procedural updates.

Maintain a clean, stocked, and safe work environment.

Decontaminate, clean, package, sterilize, store, and distribute medical/surgical equipment per CDC, OSHA, and CLIA guidelines.

Support orientation and training of new hires.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of screen time, sitting at a desk, and standing.
