Summary Conducts complex procedures and tests using Computed Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data. Works in collaboration with various teams (Trauma, Stroke, Cardiology) to obtain necessary imaging for advanced diagnoses to aid in treatment options.

Responsibilities

Conducts complex procedures and tests using Computed Tomography (CT) equipment to acquire and analyze patient diagnostic data, collaborating with various teams to obtain necessary imaging.

Assists the radiologist in performing high‑risk invasive diagnostic techniques such as needle biopsies, aspirations, CT‑guided joint injections, and CT‑guided needle‑wire placement exams for surgery, and contributes input for alternative approaches and adjustment of scan parameters limiting radiation dosage.

Evaluates contra‑indications, such as medications or insufficient patient preparation, and coordinates appropriate care before the patient’s arrival, notifying care teams as needed.

Performs CTA perfusion, Code IA/Stroke/Bat, Red Trauma Series, Yellow Trauma Series, ROSC, and Portable CT procedures, and demonstrates the ability to train CT Tech I team members on these exams.

Recognizes diagnostic characteristics of normal and abnormal scans, anatomy, and questionable findings, alerting the radiologist for escalation or additional care.

Manipulates parameters for CT Gated Watchman and Cardiac exams, including proper manipulation of monitoring devices and competency in both equipment and computer parameters.

Analyzes scan data throughout the course of the examination to provide a comprehensive report, noting any complications impacting image quality.

Triages care for general anesthesia (adult/pediatric) exams and educates care teams, ensuring optimal parameters, equipment settings, contrast administration, and post‑processing of images.

Obtains images per protocols, manipulates images, performs multi‑planar and 3D reconstruction, demonstrates a thorough knowledge of CT algorithms, and selects appropriate window and level settings according to anatomy.

Administers oral and rectal contrast to adult and pediatric patients per protocols, establishes IV lines, injects IV contrast safely, and checks lab values before injection.

Education Requirements

Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science with an advanced registry in Computed Tomography.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiological Sciences or certified with NMTCB(CT).

Successful candidates must maintain their registry status and continuing education requirements annually.

All imaging specialists are required to maintain current competency in HCP BLS.

Professional Experience Requirements

Three (3) years of experience as a CT Technologist.
