Position
The Town of Marana is seeking a
Judge Pro Tempore
to work in the Magistrate Court Department. The ideal candidate has a strong sense of public service, high civic responsibility, the ability to evaluate facts and legal arguments fairly and impartially, excellent people skills, and the ability to work with current staff. This position is intermittent, on-call, as-needed with no guaranteed minimum number of hours.
Compensation
$150 for a half-day session and $300 for full-day sessions. If less than a half-day session is used, the rate is $50 per hour.
Responsibilities
The duties include presiding over a broad range of misdemeanor criminal, civil traffic, and Town Code violation cases, as well as civil orders of protection and injunctions against harassment.
Minimum Qualifications
At least 30 years of age, of good moral character, admitted to practice law in Arizona, and a resident of Arizona for the five years immediately preceding appointment as a judge pro tempore, as required by Article 6, §31 of the Arizona Constitution. At least five years of courtroom experience as an attorney or five years of experience as a judicial or hearing officer, or a combination thereof totaling five years. Familiarity with the ethical restrictions on the practice of law while serving as a special judicial officer, located in the Arizona Code of Judicial Conduct (reference available in the publication).
Recruitment Process

Applications will be reviewed by the Court Administrator to determine minimum qualifications, then forwarded to the Town Magistrate for review and recommendation to the Town Council for appointment as a part-time judge pro tempore.
