Client: VDOT - State of Virginia
Location Richmond, VA (Onsite) – need candidate within 2‑hrs drivable distance to Richmond.

Job Overview VDOT is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Sr NE) to implement and provide support to the agency’s IT Network infrastructure. The Sr NE performs day‑to‑day activities related to the support and documentation of VDOT Network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Considerable knowledge and working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points and load balancers (including the ability to document, set up, configure, upgrade, manage and troubleshoot).
Be capable of troubleshooting network‑related infrastructure.
Identify and diagnose system problems using line monitors, diagnostic software, and test equipment.
Work closely with agency IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather requirements, specifications and configurations to assure they are accurate and up‑to‑date.
Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime.
Assist in overseeing the installation, documentation and upgrades of various agency facility data network infrastructure.
Oversee and collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations.
Provide documentation of network architecture, topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules and access controls when required.
Work independently on assigned projects.
Maintain at least an industry‑standard networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA‑Junos).
Required Skills & Qualifications
Considerable knowledge and hands‑on working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls and wireless access points. (Required 8 Years)
Hands‑on experience setting up, configuring, upgrading, managing and troubleshooting routers, switches and WAPs. (Required 8 Years)
Hands‑on ability to design, install and troubleshoot local‑area and wide‑area enterprise networks. (Required 8 Years)
Direct hands‑on engineering and design experience in the networking industry. (Required 8 Years)
Industry‑standard networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA‑Junos). (Required)
Experience designing, installing and troubleshooting local‑area and wide‑area enterprise networks. (Required 8 Years)
Monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security architecture policies and standards. (Required 8 Years)
Creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance. (Required 8 Years)
Performance tuning, monitoring systems statistics/metrics, and disaster recovery. (Required 8 Years)
Creating network diagrams using industry‑standard tools such as Visio. (Required 8 Years)
Knowledge of networking features and protocols such as ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, EtherChannel, HSRP, QoS, multicasting, IPsec, etc. (Required 8 Years)
Experience with SDWAN. (Desired 3 Years)
Experience with network topology related to cloud. (Desired 3 Years)
Familiarity and experience working with cloud networking. (Desired 3 Years)
