Provides diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services to all shelter animals. Monitors animal health, provides patient education, and assists with administrative work. Minimum Qualifications

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an accredited college or university Active veterinary license in the State of Utah Controlled Substance License at the time of hire (or within 60 days) Certification to issue State Health Exams at the time of hire (or within 30 days) Verified negative drug test result prior to start Passes random alcohol and drug testing as required Completes background check through fingerprinting and records program Essential Functions

Supports spay/neuter surgeries and clinic operations; performs required number of canine and feline sterilizations per day Adheres to herd health protocols that are cost- and time-efficient Monitors treatment progress and ensures rapid recovery Maintains complete surgical, complication, and mortality logs and patient records Performs wellness and surgical procedures competently, safely, and efficiently Provides education and consults with clients, foster families, adopters, owners, rescuers, and staff Uses population management knowledge to recommend euthanasia for non-responsive candidates Assists with diagnostic or surgical responsibilities in the absence of specialty veterinarians Researches and recommends best practices for shelter medicine and high-volume spay/neuter clinics Assists in developing and implementing improved diagnostic, treatment, and surgery protocols Works with clinic manager to create and distribute veterinary staff schedules Provides on‑call services on a rotating basis to respond to emergencies Knowledge

Surgical procedures for spaying and neutering of canines, felines, rabbits, guinea pigs, and other common shelter animals Shelter medicine and best practices Modern techniques for treating common diseases and injuries Laws, codes, regulations, and policies affecting agency operations Quality assurance procedures and techniques Training principles, practices, and techniques Skills and Abilities

Determine surgical needs based on animal health status Interpret and apply county, state, and federal regulations affecting treatment programs Provide effective training and instruction on common medical techniques Analyze program needs and develop, recommend, and implement operational procedures, policies, and protocols Establish and maintain cooperative relations with citizens and staff Prepare clear, complete, and technically accurate reports Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Requires standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads of 10–40 pounds regularly and up to 80 pounds occasionally; stooping, bending, squatting, and reaching frequently. Incumbent will be exposed to animals that may bite, kick, scratch, or be diseased; have contact with fur, dander, odors, noise, unsanitary conditions, dust, gases, and chemicals; and be frequently exposed to blood, needles, scalpels, and other sharp instruments.
