Water Infrastructure Engineer, AMER Energy and Water – East Region, Amazon Data Services, Inc., Arlington, VA. Key Responsibilities

Plan and implement water and wastewater infrastructure projects that support water delivery to data centers.

Engineer, implement, and monitor water treatment and operations projects and identify optimal design criteria for scaling projects to full‑scale deployment across North America.

Work with internal teams to troubleshoot problems and conduct root‑cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action (CA) for design and fleet‑deployed water systems.

Work with local water utilities to coordinate site utility requirements, infrastructure development, site inspections, and compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.

Track and manage reliability and maintenance of water systems, as well as the resiliency of sources of water supply required for data‑center cooling.

Collaborate with Data Center Operations to develop resiliency plans for water supply sources.

Deliver projects that directly support water sustainability goals.

Oversee support, testing, and validation of systems during installation, operation, and maintenance of water treatment equipment and associated mechanical systems.

Interface with internal engineering, operations, real‑estate, and environmental health and safety teams to develop and implement solutions in rural areas that often lack adequate available water and wastewater infrastructure.

Maintain and ensure compliance of on‑site water treatment and disinfection systems.

Travel up to 25% of the time as needed for project execution when authorized.

About the Team AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep the cloud running. Our diverse team includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Water Resources Planning.

8+ years of relevant experience demonstrating excellent project management skills in a fast‑scaling environment.

8+ years of experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications, and the ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and scalable implementation.

8+ years of experience understanding mechanical/plumbing related to data centers or similar buildings that use water infrastructure such as pumps, cooling towers, evaporative media, heat exchangers, air handling units, or air economizers.

8+ years of project‑related experience working with local or state government agencies, utilities, site development due diligence, and/or permitting entities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of knowledge of water and wastewater regulations in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

5+ years of direct experience with the construction, operation, or maintenance of water treatment equipment fleet management.

Advanced degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.

Advanced degree in Water Resources Planning.

Experience with fast‑track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects.

Knowledge or skills in SQL or data analytics tools such as Tableau.
