Manager WQ & Env Compliance
American Water seeks a Manager to oversee wastewater quality, laboratory programs, and environmental stewardship.
Responsibilities Establish day‑to‑day management of personnel and implementation of wastewater quality and environmental programs. Maintain budgets, commit expenditures, and set priorities. Act independently on technical and environmental matters and liaise with key regulatory officials.
Key Accountabilities
Initiate and control the wastewater environmental compliance program for Illinois, including monitoring and reporting under the Clean Water Act.
Coordinate resolution of wastewater issues with State regulatory personnel and local operations.
Direct workforce to maintain compliance with wastewater and environmental regulations and laboratory procedures.
Review the impact on company activities from existing and proposed regulations at the local, state, and federal level.
Execute departmental business plans and contribute to functional strategies, including capital and O&M budgets for environmental compliance.
Assure adherence to policies, programs, standards, and approved objectives related to wastewater and environmental compliance.
Knowledge / Skills
Science, theory, and application of wastewater treatment operations and water quality monitoring.
Current and emerging environmental issues and regulations impacting wastewater resources.
Industry trade organization participation to improve environmental program awareness.
Understanding of company goals, policies, procedures, and business plans.
Experience / Education
Bachelor’s degree.
5–10 years experience in environmental management, project planning, or public programs.
Experience managing people, processes, technologies, and budgets.
Travel Requirements Travel may be up to 30%.
Other
Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
Class 1 wastewater license preferred.
Work Environment Field and office environment.
