Recreation Specialist – City of Calabasas
Overview Under general supervision, organize and conduct specialized recreation programs for the community, providing highly responsible and technical staff assistance for the Community Services Department.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning, organization, and supervision of specialized recreation programs and events.
Oversee class registration operations, input and analyze program data, and develop statistical program information.
Manage membership registration and operations.
Serve as liaison between community service program participants and the City.
Speak to community groups and schools to promote participation and explain specialized programs.
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports.
Maintain program calendar for all program locations.
Assist with instructor recruitment, payments, and contract maintenance.
Prepare and distribute promotional materials, news releases, and public service announcements for department classes, programs, and services.
Assist with youth and adult sports programs.
Assist with facility rentals.
Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge of personal computer and related software.
Knowledge of principles and practices of organizing and conducting public recreation programs and recreational activities.
Knowledge of principles and practices of clubs, centers, and parks established to meet the leisure and recreational needs of community groups of all ages.
Knowledge of record keeping and reporting procedures.
Skill and ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including personal computer and related software.
Ability to apply sound judgment in the solution of problems related to parks, recreation, and community services activities.
Training & Experience Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Common paths include at least one year of recreation program involvement and/or a Bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field.
Licenses & Certifications Possession of a valid California driver’s license, live‑scan fingerprinting clearance, and current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Vision (corrected or uncorrected) to read small print.
Mobility to stand, stoop, reach, and bend.
Ability to stand for long periods.
Lifting, pushing, or pulling not exceeding 50 pounds.
Exposure to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
Use of personal vehicle may be required.
Attendance of periodic evening shifts and travel within and outside city boundaries possible.
Work at a video display terminal for prolonged periods may be required.
Work during evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required.
