A prominent manufacturing company in the Metro Detroit area is seeking a Controls Engineering Manager to join their team. The Controls Engineering Manager will be responsible for all controls engineers and projects.
Position Responsibilities
Direct supervision of In-House and Contract Controls Engineers
Assist with the successful management of engineering programs as they relate to cost, quality, safety, timing and customer satisfaction
Develop the Controls department through leadership, mentoring, and training of Controls Engineers
Manage staffing and workload issues, including managing direct, indirect and overtime hours as they relate to workload, budget and timing
Design, implement and document control systems for various types of automated equipment
Conduct the electrical/hydraulic pneumatic design, peripheral device programming, machine PLC programming, coordinate the machine debug, power-up, and machine validation with the appropriate build, power and design teams
Ensure that equipment is designed and programmed to customer and/or Axis Company build specifications using standard techniques and approach
Travel to customer sites for installation and startup of equipment as needed
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of applicable experience in an automation role
Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science
5+ years of experience in engineered-to-order environment
5+ years proficiency in programming, including PLC, robotics, vision systems, and handshaking between various peripheral systems
Experience troubleshooting automated equipment involving hardware and software issues
3+ years of experience leading teams of engineers
