Position
Navarro Research & Engineering is seeking a
Groundwater Remediation System Engineer
(ID 3695) to support remediation operations at the NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) in Las Cruces, NM.
Role Overview Navarro operates and maintains two groundwater remediation systems to address ongoing environmental remediation activities at WSTF. This role requires an on‑site presence, strong interpersonal skills, and effective communication with all project team members, including client representatives and on‑site contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in the operation of the treatment systems in full compliance with the provisions of all EPA, NMED, NMSLO, and NASA requirements.
Perform treatment system start‑ups, shutdowns, and routine operations.
Maintain and update treatment system maintenance records and logs.
Support maintenance and troubleshooting activities in accordance with applicable site safety and operational requirements.
Develop and maintain task‑specific instructions and provide guidance and/or oversight to treatment system technicians.
Develop statements of work or procurement documentation for system upgrades and repairs.
Coordinate activities with other WSTF contractor personnel.
Work with off‑site subcontractors and equipment/software technical support representatives to facilitate the above activities.
Prepare and present engineering design project reports to Navarro team members, on‑site contractor management, and client representatives.
Work with WSTF facilities and drafting personnel to develop, review, and/or update treatment system mechanical, instrumentation & controls, and electrical drawings.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
Minimum of four (4) years of directly relevant professional experience.
Current valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
OSHA HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain.
Safe work ethic.
Experience with standard office software.
Understanding of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidance.
U.S. citizenship.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Experience with the operation and maintenance of groundwater treatment process equipment, including air strippers and ultraviolet photolysis reactors.
Working knowledge of piping, pumps, flow meters, pressure and temperature sensors, electric motors, and motor protection devices.
Familiarity with Rockwell Automation, Inc., FactoryTalk software, and general SCADA system knowledge.
Experience with groundwater extraction and injection wells.
Experience monitoring and maintaining hydraulic capture of groundwater plumes.
Prior experience on U.S. federal facility projects.
Professional registration.
Work Environment and Physical Demands The duties for this position are performed primarily in an office setting and secondarily in the field. Field work regularly requires the use of PPE, safe work practices, and navigation of uneven ground or other obstacles found in desert terrains. Work weeks are on a 9/80 schedule.
