SUMMARY OF POSITION The Engineering Manager for a machine shop oversees operations, staff, and projects, focusing on efficiency, quality, and profitability through a mix of technical expertise and leadership. Key responsibilities include managing budgets and schedules, ensuring technical specifications are met, improving processes, and leading the engineering and shop floor teams. The role requires a strong background in machining, along with skills in project management, process improvement methodologies like lean manufacturing, and team leadership.

Team and project management:
Direct and motivate engineering and shop floor staff, set project goals, and assign tasks.
Operational oversight:
Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
Quality and compliance:
Ensure the manufacturing process meets design and technical specifications, and enforce company safety standards.
Process improvement:
Lead efforts to improve efficiency and profitability through techniques like lean manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma.
Technical leadership:
Approve product design changes, oversee equipment upgrades, and troubleshoot technical problems.
Stakeholder communication:
Interact with upper management and other departments to provide updates and coordinate efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is often required,
Significant experience in a machine shop environment (often 5‑10 years)
Previous leadership experience.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
Strong background in CNC and manual machining, including setup, programming, and tooling.
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
Proven ability to coach and develop employees, manage performance, and lead a team effectively.
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT EXPERTISE
Experience with methodologies like Lean manufacturing, 5S, or Six Sigma is often .
SOFTWARE AND TOOLS
Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, CAD/CAM software, and other relevant tools is essential. SolidWorks experience is desirable.
PROBLEM‑SOLVING
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to use data to make decisions.
