Maintenance Mechanic – Custom Job Shop Metal Fabrication Chicago, IL

Shifts Available: 1st (6am–2pm), 2nd (2pm–10pm), 3rd (10pm–6am)

Maintenance Mechanics

to help support that growth. As a key member of the maintenance team, you’ll be responsible for keeping a variety of custom metalworking and fabrication equipment running smoothly. Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate: $30–$40 based on experience and education

Paid overtime (average 50 hours/week)

Shift differential available

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair fabrication and metalworking equipment including hydraulic presses, CNC machines, conveyors, and overhead cranes

Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system failures and implement root‑cause solutions

Support equipment installations, upgrades, and custom modifications to meet production demands

Use micrometers, calipers, laser alignment tools, and other precision instruments to ensure equipment functionality

Follow preventive maintenance schedules and help improve reliability practices

Complete work orders, log parts usage, and document repairs in maintenance systems

Ensure all work meets plant safety protocols and participate in safety programs

Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment performance

Requirements

AAS / Maintenance Certifications, or High school diploma or GED required

4–5+ years of hands‑on maintenance experience in a fabrication, machine shop, heavy industrial environment or related industry

Troubleshooting skills in mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints

Experience maintaining metal fabrication equipment including CNCs, press brakes, saws, welded systems

Strong communication skills and a self‑driven attitude

Preventive maintenance experience and basic computer skills for maintenance tracking
