Position Summary The Senior Cost Accountant- Waste-to-Energy (WtE) will play a vital leadership role in the financial management and operational support of FCC Environmental Services’ Pinellas County facility in St. Petersburg, FL. Reporting directly to the Controller of the Waste-to-Energy Division and working closely with the Plant Manager and senior operational leadership, this position ensures accurate, timely, and insightful financial information is provided to support critical business decision‑making, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The monthly financial close for the plant including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis in compliance with IFRS and corporate guidelines.
Partner with operations and project teams to plan, track, and execute capital projects including preparing capital expenditure returns, monitoring spend, and forecasting cost savings.
Responsible for preparing the monthly invoice for the county and submitting it to Fort Lauderdale for processing into SAP.
Assist in preparing the annual budget and required forecasts for the plant and in the preparation of the monthly analysis of variances to the budget and forecast.
Provide analysis and otherwise support the plant by identifying areas of opportunity for improvement.
Monitoring and reporting of aged inventory in order to prepare appropriate reserves.
Assist in gathering information and analysis required for external/internal auditors.
Assist in gathering information for tax preparation.
Teaching and coaching the plant staff teams on costs and the associated drivers, along with general knowledge of accounting terms.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
Experience And Competencies
4+ years of experience in a plant accounting or financial management role, ideally in manufacturing or energy.
Strong understanding of cost accounting, financial analysis, and budgeting.
Experience in the Waste-to-Energy, utilities, or heavy industrial sector is highly desirable.
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands‑on, collaborative approach.
