Job Description
Position Summary:
We are seeking a
Tool Grinding Engineer
to support the programming, optimization, and troubleshooting of Rollomatic, Walter, and Strausak CNC grinding machines. This role focuses on improving tool manufacturing processes, enhancing production efficiency, and ensuring the highest level of precision and quality for our cutting tools and components. Key Responsibilities
Develop, modify, and optimize CNC grinding programs for Rollomatic, Walter, and Strausak machines. Translate tool design specifications, CAD models, and engineering drawings into precise machine instructions. Work with CAD/CAM software to create efficient tool paths and improve cycle times. Operate and run the machines. Analyze and improve grinding processes to enhance tool quality, reduce scrap, and increase throughput. Select and implement optimal grinding wheels, abrasives, and cutting parameters for various applications. Collaborate with design engineering, production, and quality teams to improve manufacturability and reduce costs. Diagnose machine, programming, and tooling issues and implement corrective actions. Support technicians on the shop floor by providing guidance on machine setups, adjustments, and problem resolution. Act as a subject matter expert for CNC grinding technology and applications. Ensure all manufactured tools meet tight tolerance requirements and customer specifications. Partner with the quality team to define inspection criteria and support root‑cause analysis of defects. Lead process improvement projects to drive efficiency and innovation. Research and implement emerging technologies and best practices in tool grinding. Provide input on machine upgrades, automation, and tooling investments. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in CNC tool grinding operations, programming, or engineering. Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Solidworks, VG Pro, NUMROTO or similar). Experience with precision measurement tools and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing). Strong hands‑on experience with Rollomatic, Walter, and/or Strausak CNC grinding machines. Solid understanding of cutting tool geometry, grinding wheel selection, and tool manufacturing principles. Experience in cutting tool manufacturing for aerospace, medical, or industrial applications. Knowledge of automation, robotics integration, and advanced grinding techniques. Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities. Excellent attention to detail and precision. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Effective communication skills to collaborate across engineering, production, and quality teams. Passion for innovation and process improvement. Seniority level:
