General Description Of The Job Class The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVIS) will utilize professional cardiovascular theory, technology, and processes to implement direct patient care on adult patients requiring diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the cardiovascular service. The CVIS assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and arrhythmias in the Cath Lab, EP Lab, and Hybrid OR, specializing in procedures such as angioplasty, stent placement, vascular interventions, mechanical support device placement, EP device placement, cardiac ablations, and tilt table exams.

Responsibilities

Plan, provide, and document care of cardiovascular invasive lab patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies.

Use professional clinical judgment to assist the provider in planning patient care based on assessment and response.

Prioritize tasks to ensure efficient and effective patient care amid case volume challenges.

Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance of invasive lab equipment.

Prepare procedure rooms and equipment daily, managing inventory and supplies.

Document, retrieve, and verify data for patient records.

Maintain required competencies, seek educational opportunities, and support development of other staff.

Participate in performance improvement activities and adhere to safety and regulatory standards.

Collaborate with the team to individualize care plans and provide advanced skills resources.

Refer to CVIS clinical ladder policy for professional advancement information.

Required Qualifications At This Level Education

Associates or baccalaureate degree in health science (e.g., cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy), or

A degree in an unrelated field plus completion of a certificate program in cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiology technology, or respiratory therapy.

Experience

Level II: One year as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist plus ladder requirements.

Level III: Two years as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist plus ladder requirements.

Certifications

RCIS, RCES, ARRT – RTR, ARRT – Radiography (R), ARRT – Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI), ARRT – Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), ARRT – Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), or IBHRE certification within 36 months (Level II).

Basic Life Support Certification required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 6 months (Adult Cath, EP, Hybrid OR).

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Apply and modify professional cardiovascular technology principles to patient care.

Identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions.

Maintain knowledge of medical equipment, technology, and safety hazards.

Perform, instruct, and troubleshoot technical skills.

Communicate effectively orally and electronically with team, patients, and providers.

Use fine motor skills and cognitive functions to process information and treatment follow‑up.

Utilize computer skills and learn new software.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Adhere to infection control procedures, safety precautions, and regulatory requirements.

Physical capacity for pre‑employment testing.
