Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day non‑clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities, ensuring efficient workflow and a positive patient experience.
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
Supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers, maintaining compliance with company policies, state and federal laws, and business ethics.
Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel; conduct training, coaching, and performance management, including discipline and termination decisions.
Assist the pharmacist in patient care activities such as patient registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verifying (where allowed by law).
Assist with healthcare service offerings including administering vaccines, health screenings, and other services permitted by law.
Maintain accurate processing of insurance claims, follow up with insurance companies and medical providers, and participate in third‑party audits.
Manage core pharmacy workflow, coordinate daily schedules, recommend pharmacy hour allocation, and ensure the department is clean, organized, and adequately stocked.
Execute non‑clinical tasks such as record keeping, managing pharmacy inventory, and supporting financial analysis of pharmacy operations.
Champion new technology and process roll‑outs, drive change, and engage the team around action planning.
Ensure compliance with Good Faith Dispensing policies, security safeguards, and asset protection techniques.
Communicate prescription errors, policy updates, and continuous quality improvement initiatives to the pharmacist and pharmacy manager.
Collaborate with Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager to improve pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
Customer Experience
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
Resolve customer complaints, respond to requests in a timely manner, and answer non‑clinical questions to ensure a positive experience.
Develop strong relationships with customers, anticipate their needs, and proactively offer services.
Enhance customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services.
People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, making decisions on discipline and termination.
Ensure technicians are compliant with state and federal laws and hold them accountable for attendance and timeliness.
Handle technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling, ensuring timely completion of training.
Support licensing, registration, and certification compliance for all pharmacy personnel.
Maintain proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training as required by company policy and law.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and state‑required certification/registration.
Continuously enhance knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare.
Obtain necessary certifications, education credits, and training such as LTMP e‑modules as required by the company.
Seek professional development through performance monitoring, constructive feedback, and mentoring.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team, relaying messages from the support center or other key emails.
Participate in key store/pharmacy meetings, including 5‑minute meetings and weekly check‑ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people‑management/leadership experience.
Previous work experience with Walgreens with an exceeding expectation on last performance evaluation.
