SPD Endoscopy Technician

Overview The Central Sterile & Reprocess Technician for Endoscopy provides care to patients undergoing procedural interventions in compliance with policies and procedures of Surgical Services, AORN, JCAHO, OSHA, and AMI standards. The Technician processes sterilized products, decontaminates instruments, assembles case carts, and supplies operating rooms under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Decontamination: Receive soiled case carts and instruments, scan into the system, handwash/pre-soak, pre-clean lumened instruments, operate washer, change solutions, and maintain alignment and solution containers.

Core: Liaise between operating rooms and sterilizer department, test sterilizer, maintain biologicals, assemble and transport sterile scopes, check case carts, return unused items, and order supplies.

Instruments: Communicate with OR and team to provide instruments, assemble instruments in order of importance (needs list, one-of-a-kind, all other), inspect for damage, repair or replace, wrap in wrapper.

Sterilization: Troubleshoot sterilization problems, initiate daily sterilization routine, check steam pressure, prepare biological indicator packs, label gun, load items, monitor cycle, and transfer sterilized items to home location.

Case Carts: Pull pick lists, assemble case trays for each service, build accurate carts, indicate missing items, prepare preference cards, and replace emergency carts ASAP.

Other Duties: Distribute crash carts, decontaminate specialty carts, pick up and return sterile items to inpatient units, demonstrate positive respectful demeanor.

Job Qualifications

Education

– High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure

– Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician preferred.

Training and Experience

– 2 years prior Central Processing or Operating Room experience preferred.

Job Knowledge

– Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterile equipment and supplies, sterilization and decontamination procedures, SPD equipment and supplies, case carts, computer systems, and hospital regulations.
