JOB STATEMENT: A Bottling Line Maintenance Mechanic, Level III will possess expert knowledge of bottling line equipment operations, processes, safety, and repair. The Mechanic will have advanced electrical and mechanical diagnosing and troubleshooting skills and be a critical member of the team responsible for supporting a safe and efficient operation that routinely achieves Operational Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets. The position requires the ability to work any shift as directed by Management. Must be able to work and communicate with all Supervisors, Machine Attendants, Machine Operators, Cellar Operators, Forklift Operators, and Managers, to ensure the team meets production schedules for the bottling lines.
Essential Duties
Understand and comply with all ISO 9001, HACCP and GMP requirements and processes
Has a strong command of all bottling line machinery and controls
Must have advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
Must have ability to plug into a PLC to effectively troubleshoot, correct, and modify ladder logic programs as needed to keep production running. Has the ability and interest to support full PLC program writing and testing.
Ability to wire and rewire control panels for line equipment.
Must have advanced knowledge of VFDs and PLC controls
Must have advanced mechanical / electrical troubleshooting skills and understand a machine’s cycle of operation.
Knowledge of basic industrial electricity, 110v, 220v, and 480v, three phase power, resistance and amperage.
Knowledge in HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, air compressors and dryers, nitrogen generators, etc. and their repair
Communicate to Supervisors, Line Workers, Cellar, Quality Assurance (QA), Senior Management, and Co-workers
Safely trouble‑shoot and repair equipment and utilize the Lock‑Out, Tag‑Out (LOTO) protocol
Read and understand equipment manuals, drawings, electrical drawings and P&IDs
Report all parts used and needed for reordering to Parts Room staff
Work effectively and remain calm in all situations
Must be able to work independently, at times.
Perform necessary change‑over of the bottling line machinery and equipment in a timely manner
Proper and safe use of a V.O.M. (Volt. OHM. Meter)
Performs corrective, preventative, and routine maintenance on equipment and facility to keep them in top working condition. Supports planned overhaul work.
Has basic engineering knowledge and can effectively work with company engineers and external technical and engineering staff to solve problems and design solutions.
Must supply own hand tools and be able to carry a tool pouch weighing approximately 10 to 15 pounds.
Must be able to wear company supplied uniforms
Must maintain the maintenance turnover logbook
Responsible for start‑up after a changeover and getting lines back to rated OEE within target time limits.
Basic welding skills (TIG, stick) highly desired.
Job Requirements
Two (2) year certification in automotive, marine, machining/welding, industrial electrical & controls, or aviation maintenance and troubleshooting and at least ten (10) years’ experience with demonstrated increase in responsibility and scope at the title of Senior Mechanic/Mechanic III/Industrial Electrician in a plant manufacturing environment, with preference for high‑speed beverage manufacturing of sodas, wine, beer, juice or dairy products with at least 2MM units of production annually.
OR
At least fourteen (14) years’ experience with demonstrated increase in responsibility and scope at the title of Senior Mechanic/Mechanic III/Industrial Electrician in a plant manufacturing environment, with preference for high‑speed beverage manufacturing of sodas, wine, beer, juice or dairy products with at least 3MM units of production annually.
CPR Certification and first aid mandatory.
Knowledge Of
Process equipment cycle of operation
Practical welding and fabrication techniques – sanitary welding experience a plus
Preventive maintenance schedules and overhauls
Equipment manuals, specifications, drawings
Ability To
Plan and schedule assigned duties
Train, mentor and coach team mates in the Maintenance & Engineering Dept.
Work independently with minimal supervision
Interact effectively with other workers and supervisors
Work at various heights and awkward positions
Physical Requirements
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Occasional stair climb
Frequent walking
Work in awkward positions (kneeling, lying down or squatting)
Work Environment
Moving machinery
Occasional high noise level
Exposure to solvents/chemicals
Frequently working in outdoor climate
Personal Protective Equipment Required
Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
