Job Description This function, under minimal to no supervision, designs, selects components, installs and maintains production instrumentation, electrical wiring, production control equipment, and related auxiliary systems. It monitors production equipment and systems to determine operational status and troubleshoot system malfunctions, and provides support to Engineering and Operations to help design, build, test, and troubleshoot production equipment and manufacturing systems. It requires the ability to repair and modify production equipment at the component level, specify and order spare parts for existing equipment and systems as needed, and be proficient at analyzing and troubleshooting complex electrical and control systems such as ATS, PLCs, communication networks, motor starters, VFDs and various electromechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Test, repair, maintain, and modify existing and new equipment, including electronic, vacuum, mechanical, and chemical apparatus.
May design, select, build, and program control equipment for specific project requirements or process improvements either independently or in collaboration with Engineering or third‑party contractors.
Have knowledge of the mechanical and electrical operation of equipment such as pumps, boilers, heaters, and other plumbing components.
Have strong knowledge in consensus codes such as NEC500, NFPA70 and be proficient at applying this to evaluate current systems or proposed new designs.
Adjust and/or calibrate components, production equipment, and control systems to improve overall efficiency and record all changes and their effect. Proficient with calibration tools such as process multimeters, calibrated gauges and vendor‑supplied calibration software.
Able to use electrical schematic drawings for PLCs and power distribution for troubleshooting, installation and commissioning. Experience with generating redline or "as built” modifications for use by engineering or OEM to update designs.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED; at least 10 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. An E2 electrical license is not required but is strongly desirable. A directly related higher degree from an accredited institution or technical certification in Instrumentation and/or Controls Systems may be substituted for experience.
