Senior Project Manager- Industrial (STX Operations)
Join Alterman, Inc. as a Senior Project Manager in the Industrial Division, overseeing all assigned projects and customer accounts in the STX Operations segment.
Position Overview The Senior Project Manager has final responsibility for the execution of all project contracts or customer accounts. This role requires managing multiple projects at the lowest cost, safely, and with the highest quality, consistent with contract requirements and good business practices. The manager will direct and lead project managers, assistant project managers, and support staff, reporting directly to the Director of Water/Wastewater.
Account Management
Take ownership and responsibility for assigned accounts.
Ensure long‑term customer satisfaction and grow revenue and opportunities.
Evaluate bidding and negotiating opportunities.
Take profit and loss responsibility for assigned projects or accounts.
Maintain effective communications with Alterman personnel and provide timely updates.
Advise the Director of Water/Wastewater of any significant problems with recommended solutions.
Project Management
Manage larger projects or multiple customer accounts according to Alterman procedures.
Project set‑up responsibility and budgeting (material, labor, subcontracts, DJE).
Scheduling (construction, material, labor, cash) and schedule of values.
Prepare project documents: permits, bonds, insurance.
Monitor project productivity (labor % complete, earned value, cost codes, man‑loading).
Produce accurate job cost projections.
Lead project review meetings (25–50–75–90%) and prepare documentation.
Prepare dispute/claim avoidance and interpret contracts.
Create change order proposals and quotations; define quoting, material pricing, laboring, and markup.
Maintain positive cash flow through appropriate billings and collections.
Staff and/or manage projects with backup capabilities.
Attend project meetings.
Project Close Out:
Punch list, sign‑off, final billing, retainage, warranty, returns, close P.O.’s, record documents.
Schedule and lead close‑out meetings and prepare documents.
Project Planning
Collaborate with Preconstruction and Project Support to maximize profit opportunities.
Review plans, specifications, estimates, and construction estimates by phase.
Lead kick‑off meetings with Estimating group.
Re‑engineer projects and capitalize on pre‑fabrication opportunities.
Implement and monitor safety programs and report findings on incidents.
Material Procurement
Coordinate with Purchasing to source and deliver materials within budget.
Review plans, specifications, quotations, and bills of materials.
Evaluate installed material cost versus budget.
Issue and manage 200+ P.O.’s in coordination with Purchasing and Risk Management.
Plan deliveries, process shop drawings, issue releases, monitor usage and invoices.
Ensure timely delivery and handle returns.
Request and process O & M manuals.
Labor
Work with Workforce for labor budgeting and productivity.
Enforce safety policies and select key supervisory personnel.
Evaluate supervisor performance and address deficiencies.
Assist foremen to promote cost‑effective installation.
Monitor productivity, budgets, and enforce safety.
Maintain material files and field drawings, and compile O&M manuals and as‑built records.
General Responsibilities
Participate in all required training.
Oversee direct reports to ensure timely completion of duties.
Conduct performance reviews per the corporate system.
Assume additional tasks as assigned and in the scope of this position.
Ensure all activities comply with Alterman’s mission, values, safety standards, and policies.
Collaborate with the Director of Water/Wastewater to define critical path activities and maintain documentation.
Communicate operational details to ensure understanding by all managers.
Pursue and generate business opportunities, maintaining customer satisfaction.
Manage vendor relationships to protect the corporation’s interests.
Demonstrate commitment to accurate and complete job duties.
Desired Education And / Or Experience Level
Completion of an Inside Wireman Apprenticeship or equivalent.
Associate Degree in Business Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
2 years in a field supervisory position.
5 years in project management, including estimating and engineering.
6 years in the electrical construction industry.
Necessary Skills
Proficiency in accounting software with project management features.
Experience with Primavera or another project scheduling tool.
Ability to read, interpret, and understand all contract documents, plans, specs, and requirements.
Basic knowledge of National Electric Code, electrical engineering concepts, purchasing, accounting, MS Word/Excel/Outlook, Conest program, and change orders.
Working knowledge of trade terms, material methods, codes, contract language, and bidding methods.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Effective reasoning and judgment abilities.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with urgency.
Capability to manage multiple customers, accounts, or projects concurrently.
Job Environment The role requires regular use of hands and fingers for tools or controls, reaching, talking, and hearing. Frequent sitting is required, with occasional standing, walking, climbing, or balancing. The employee must regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Visual abilities for close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception are necessary. While the position is primarily internal, the employee must safely operate within a construction atmosphere.
