Assistant Professor Faculty Position – Genetic Epidemiology, Multi-Omics, and Bioinformatics Location: 12901 Bruce B Downs Blvd, Tampa, FL 33612, US

The Health Informatics Institute (HII) at the University of South Florida is seeking to fill a non‑tenure earning position as an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, dependent upon qualifications. The Institute is NIH‑funded and works on epidemiological studies and clinical trials. This role will conduct collaborative research and provide active support for Institute activities, especially the TrialNet type 1 diabetes study, and potentially other NIH‑funded and privately funded projects. The position offers opportunities for teaching and graduate student mentoring.

Responsibilities

Use bioinformatics and machine learning tools to analyze high‑throughput omic data, including WGS, GWAS, DNA methylation, RNA‑seq, lipidomics, gut microbiome data, etc.

Perform analyses to examine how multi‑omic markers are associated with Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Develop and implement methods for integrative analysis of available multiomic data, including genomic, epigenomic, transcriptomic, lipidomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data. Prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, and scientific meeting presentations.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics/Statistics, Statistical Genetics, Genetic Epidemiology, or a related discipline.

Demonstrated productivity and leadership in the chosen field, complementing existing strengths in epidemiology, biostatistics, statistical genetics, and bioinformatics.

Excellence and creativity in research.

Meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.

Preferred Qualifications

Programming proficiency in R or Python and shell scripting on UNIX/Linux environments, especially with large data files.

Experience in analysis of human sequence data using bioinformatics tools (e.g., trimmomatic, bowtie, SAMtools, GATK, Picard, HOMER) and genetic databases.

Working knowledge of statistical genetics.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
