Position Summary To serve as a member of the Student Evaluation and Support Services (SESS) Team in a program offering psychological, social, sensory, and educational services to children ages 3-22. The SESS Team will service children through the Child Search Office and in non-public school settings.
Direct Reports This position does not have direct reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Functions as evaluation coordinator for designated referred students.
Facilitates the Student Assistance Team (SATeam) process by participating as a representative of the SESS team and providing feedback on best practices in the student assistance team process.
Explains and interprets assessment services/findings to parents, teachers, principals, and other appropriate personnel.
Implements and/or assists teachers and other school personnel in the design and implementation of educational and behavioral interventions for support services to clients.
Provides a written report of any academic/behavioral support services provided to clients.
Attends Tier III data meetings to participate in the development of evidence-based interventions and to assist in the analysis of the plans’ effectiveness.
Evaluates students suspected of being exceptional in accordance with Bulletin 1508, the Pupil Appraisal Handbook, describing educational strategies and needed academic and environmental adjustments or curricular modifications.
Serves as a member of the Child Search Team by conducting functional/developmental assessments for preschool-aged children.
Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) staffing and service plan meetings when appropriate.
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Education, at least one year of experience in the certified special education area, as authorized by the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Minimum of three years of experience as an Educational Diagnostician or comparable special education experience required.
Valid Louisiana Type A, B, or Level 2 or 3 teaching certification for generic special education.
Other Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities Required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to special education.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.
Basic computer skills and ability to use various software programs.

Work Environment
Requires motor coordination with finger dexterity (keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) for part of the workday.
May require exerting physical effort to handle objects more than 30 pounds rarely.
May be exposed to physical occupational risks (cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals) rarely.
May be exposed to environmental elements such as dirt, odors, noise, or weather extremes rarely.
Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.
Performance Evaluation The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either the COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, they will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
